Shizen Spa Comes To Muskoka At Deerhurst Resort

A bit of Toronto chic has travelled north with the recent rebranding of the spa at Deerhurst Resort into a Shizen Spa. It’s the fourth in the Shizen family – both the Cosmopolitan Hotel and Pantages Hotel in Toronto house a Shizen Spa, as well as Horseshoe Resort near Barrie.

std_aerial_deerhurst“It’s hands on wellness – grassroots in an upscale environment,” says Nicole Verzyden, the Spa Manager at Deerhurst Resort. “Services are wellness based while being results oriented.”

Shizen, which means ‘nature’ in Japanese, takes a holistic approach to wellness, bringing in spa rituals from around the globe. These new Shizen Retreats & Rituals have been specially created to make most of the guest’s spa time while addressing specific concerns.

It’s an interesting mix of global and local that works with the classic Muskoka vibe of Peninsula Lake, where Deerhurst is situated, not far from Huntsville, Ontario.

“We try to keep the decor of the spa similar to the surroundings,” Verzyden says.

As well, they offer pure Muskoka treatments with Soapstones products which are handcrafted just ten minutes away from the resort – think maple, think honey, think the great Canadian North.

For organics, Shizen’s Comfort Zone products from Italy have a special organic line called Sacred Nature. For facials that are anti-aging, you might want to opt for a Pevonia Luminous C & Sea ($155) or a Shizen Signature Action Sublime ($45) and for combo skin you might want to go for an Active Pureness Facial ($150). It’s best to discuss treatments when booking to make sure you get what’s best for you.

The spa has seven treatment rooms – one of them a couple’s massage room – mani/pedi areas and the changing rooms have steam baths. More amenities can be found throughout the resort, like an indoor whirlpool and swimming pool. Then, of course, there is the lake itself, where the beach, kayaks, canoes and paddle boats offer a little outdoor wellness of their own.

Don’t worry – things don’t close down in the fall. Deerhurst is a year-round resort, and the spa will be soon unveiling fall seasonal specials as well as wedding and celebrations offerings.
