Grande SPA Grand Relaxation
The Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, Bangkok, is currently prepping for the launch of their new spa philosophy, new treatments and new cosmetic line for facials, at The Grande Spa ………..
Bangkok has many fabulous options for spa treatments, but if long-standing, tried and true experience is anything go to by, then Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, Bangkok, is arguably among the best of them. For the last 15 years or so, The Grande Spa there has been serving a loyal clientele, who return time and again for the luxurious pampering on offer. Taking a privileged sneak preview of the exciting changes afoot at The Grande Spa, I jumped at the chance to be soothed and rejuvenated by some of the innovative new massage techniques and Italian cosmetic line that are to be introduced later this month.
nstead of the usual relaunch, where rooms are modernised and decor updated, Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit cleverly decided not to try and fix that which was not broken, but rather opted to improve the menu offering, procedures and spa products used – the very essence of the spa. The de{aac}cor remains true to the overall hotel experience of authentic Thai hospitality and the service is still smiling and exemplary. In her seven short months back with Sheraton, The Grande Spa & Fitness Centre Manager, Khun Minmanta, has been busily working together with her therapists, to integrate innovative new massage techniques and authentic traditional methods, with a new set of essential oils, and a brand new product line for facial treatments from the Comfort Zone range.
The Grande Spa provides a calming environment for an incredibly relaxing spa experience, tailored to your desires. Everything from room temperature, music volume and massage pressure is all to suit the guests’ personal preferences. The new selection of signature treatments has been created around the four elements, based on the Thai Zodiac beliefs, to enhance mood and well-being. Pure essential oils have been blended into Din (earth), Fai (fire), Nam (water) and Lom (wind), and are matched with guests according to their birth month. So, for example, those born from November to January are treated to the earth element experience.
Din oils are blended with a decidedly woody aroma, to dispel distress and instill balance, to suit strong and stable types, whose stress manifests in a physical manner. Fai has strong hints of lemongrass and rosemary, intended to diffuse anger and encourage passion, for creative types who tend to stress more easily. Nam has a peppermint based aromatic oil to counter fear and inspire confidence, also aimed at those who retain fluid in the body and suffer frequently from cold or flu symptoms. Lom has a slightly sweeter fragrance, with lavender, cinnamon and clove oils, for sensitive types, to reduce sorrow and induce delight. Guests can also choose from one of the four, to suit their mood at the time of treatment.
Whether you are looking for a quick pick-me-up with one of the express 30-minute treatments, or anything up to a full day’s worth of indulgence, the new treatment menu will still include some of the popular well-established favourites, from the range of massages, facials, body scrubs, wraps and packages. However, the new spa treatment menu items are definitely worth exploring, from top to toe, quite literally. The Grand Spa Signature Experiences are from 2-3.5hours, so make sure you are in no hurry, in order to maximize the journey into relaxation.
The Grande Therapeutic Luk Pra Kob utilises the traditional Thai herbal compress method, which contains a specially concocted balance of 17 natural ingredients, to ensure the utmost pleasure and muscle tension release. This is then followed by the highly recommendable Grande Realignment massage ritual. With this massage, the therapist applies slow, intense pressure, for a deeply restorative effective, further loosening stressed-out muscles, as well as aches and pains, typically associated with office syndrome. If you spend too long hunched over a computer, then this particular massage will be perfect for you. This duo of treatments will cost around 3,800Baht for two hours, or the Grande Realignment alone costs around 3,200Baht for an hour and a half, or about 3,800Baht for two blissful hours.
The Comfort Zone range includes specific products suited to men’s skin, so the new menu includes the Man Space Pure Performance facial, custom-designed for the spa-going gentleman. This purifying and balancing facial lasts one hour and costs around 2,600Baht. For the ladies, I would recommend the Absolute Pearl Illuminating facial (one hour for approximately 3,000Baht). Suited to all skin types, it is a brightening treatment to help even skin tone, and keep skin youthful and fresh. You sit up after your treatment deeply relaxed, with a discernable glow. If you have sensitive skin, let the therapist know, who will then be able to switch out the scrub for a gentle gel cleanser, if necessary, in this seven-step thorough treatment.
The attentive and thoughtful service, under the expert care of well-trained and polite therapists, makes for an unforgettable and relaxing spa experience. You start your treatment feeling informed and assured that you are in capable hands. Products used are gentle on the skin and every step is taken to ensure the entire experience, from start to finish, is oriented towards personal comfort.
With everything from the menthol-scented cold hand towel on arrival, right up to the reviving drink served in the reception lounge after your treatments, you leave feeling the urge to return again soon. With the implementation of the new treatment menu, The Grande Spa will be open daily from 8am – 11pm and for more information, just contact grande.spa @luxurycollection.com or call 02 649 8123.
